Heather McGhee has always sought cross-racial solidarity. She designs and develops strategies for organizations and campaigns to promote solutions to inequality. As an influential voice in the media, she uses it as a tool in changing mentalities and create awareness.

Heather designs and promotes solutions for inequality in America. Her 2020 TED talk, “Racism Has a Cost for Everyone” reached 1 million views. She is the chair of the board of Colour of Change, the country’s largest online racial justice organization, and volunteers for numerous other boards in the fields of philanthropy and social justice.

McGhee graduated from Yale University and the University of California Berkeley School of Law. Her book “The Sum of Us” spent 10 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and in 2021 she launched two original podcasts on the economy and on how to create cross-racial solidarity in challenging times. For nearly two decades, Heather helped building the non-partisan ""think and do"" tank Demos, serving four years as president.

Under McGhee’s leadership, Demos moved their original idea for “debt-free college” into the centre of US politics. At Demos, she designed a Racial Equity Organizational Transformation which led to an increase in staff racial diversity and an original racial equity curriculum for staff’ professional development. Heather knows she has the power to empower and uses it to actively change mentalities and raise awareness.
