A solid purpose promotes professional and personal growth

Everyone tells you that you should achieve professional growth without forgetting self-fulfillment. Although, it is not as easy as it seems. Shyness and lack of confidence may appear in the process. Also, our social structure is, subtly, denying you to reach your career purpose, especially if you are a woman or have children. In this episode, Kathy Lueders and our Girl MOVERS will give you some advice to get there.

Kathy Lueders is quite used to inspire other people to make their dreams come true. Her lifewas made of changes and moments in which people didn't believe in her capability to get towhere she wanted. Being too old, being a mother, or hearing other people’s opinions could have stopped her, but it didn’t: “Even when I got to NASA, I had a long and winding path. I had two children, kept working in different jobs, still collecting experiences along the way that have helped me with the job that I'm doing today". Kathy is, undoubtedly, the best person to answer the question: "What should I do to combine my personal purpose, career purpose, and professional growth, in general?" These are the steps you should take:

  • Work hard, knowing that every skill you gain will be useful one day, even if it seems useless now. Trust the process and always keep learning!
  • Have the right mindset. You shouldn’t ambition to do something if you don't believe in yourself: "it's about how you get yourself set up to be able to have the opportunity when it comes to you and for you to be working on".
  • Find your career purpose and what you would like to do with your life? Kathy´s main desire was to be able to solve problems. What is yours?
  • Recognize that you are unique. Think about the things that make you special. Can you write them down? Then, realize that those are the things that nobody else can do as you do. That makes you special and unique.
  • Support other people who are trying to succeed in their personal and professional choices. As Kathy mentions: "all over the world, as women, we are struggling with how we take care of children and how we have our lives, and we make sure that we help each other getting through challenges with family and work, learning and supporting each other with that".
  • Inspire other people with your example. Our Girl MOVERS felt inspired by Kathy´s example. One of them said: "I'm seeing you now, a woman like me, being a leader, being a mom, and inspiring me to do more, and be more for the girls that are following me now". As you see, your example can change other people's ambitions and the world.
  • Rest when you need to. That's what leaders do to reach professional growth. Resting is a very important habit that will give you enough energy to proceed with all your projects.

Always remember that you can be a woman, a man, or anybody: "everybody out there at some point feels like, "I don't know what I'm doing." Everybody. I don't know why, but for some reason, men are way better at faking it. They're taught at an early age, I think. Even the most amazing person has had fear and shyness, every one of us. And recognizing how strong you are to overcome that, it is what gives you the strength to move forward".

Listen to this episode and learn how to deal with your lack of confidence, while finding yourcareer purpose and purpose in life.
