“There's a lot of good people out there to help us get through our lives. And so it's about how to team up with them, how to engage with them, how to help them moving forward too.”

Kathy Lueders is by definition a women leader. She’s the first woman to head human spaceflight at NASA and is the personification of experience and passion to innovate, generate solutions and moving forward.

Kathy Lueders is the first woman to head a human spaceflight. In fact, this was a big incentive for her to take the job. As a female trailblazer, Lueders began her career at NASA in 1992 as a quality engineer, becoming only the second woman to work at the facility. As a symbol at NASA of female empowerment, Lueders says it was the problem-solving aspect of her work that led to her to accept the promotion to her current position at NASA, the Associate Administrator of the Human Exploration and Operations (HEO).

When she was younger, Kathy was a girl scout and attributes her problem-solving skills to those years. She hopes to be an inspiration for young girls, and wishes to see in the future, another girl scout sending off two spaceships into space.
