Dr. Shiva, was born at the bottom of the Himalayas. She’s one of the most outspoken environmental activist of her time. With a Master’s degree in physics and a PhD in Philosophy of Science, in 1982 she founded an independent institute, the Research Foundation for Science, Technology and Ecology which is dedicated to high quality independent research to address the most significant ecological and social issues of our times. In 1991, she created the Navdanya, a national movement for biodiversity conservation and farmers' rights in India. Dr. Shiva has contributed with fundamental ways to changing the practices of agriculture and food through her books, ‘The Violence of Green Revolution’ and ‘Monocultures of the Mind’.

She is also the Founding Board Member of many important organizations such as the International Forum on Globalization and Diverse Women for Diversity. The renowned physicist, thinker and activist Vandana Shiva proposes ecofeminism as a response to the current moment, in which the capitalist patriarchy is leading us to destruction and death, after having colonized nature, women and the future. In 2003 TIME magazine identified Dr. Shiva as an environmental hero. She will continue to be a Hero in the fight for freedom, as she once said: “Everything comes out of me, like the love of life and freedom”.
