Graça Machel is one of the world’s leading advocates for women’s and children’s rights, and has been a social justice and political activist for many decades. She was the first Education Minister of Mozambique. But above it all, she’s a reference for hundreds of girls. She established the Graça Machel Trust in 2010 to fight for the rights of women and children on the African continent, never forgetting the efforts for good governance and democracy. She’s the Deputy Chair of “the elders”, a group made of Global Leaders. There, she’s committed to the vision of a world where people live in peace, conscious of their common humanity and their shared responsibilities for each other, for the planet and for future generations. As President of the Foundation for Community Development (FDC, a not-for-profit Mozambican organisation she founded in 1994, she promotes the development of Mozambique by creating grants to civil society organisations to strengthen communities, fighting towards social and economic justice. Graça Machel became a role model, an inspiration for Mozambican girls, and she never forgets the responsibility such title carries, to share and ensure that this new generation is capable to lead with the strength and impact she did. Graça Machel dreams with the lasting change in Africa, she was also a girl once, full of dreams, and now, being one of the most respected “mamã” in África, she keeps fighting for what she believes in: GIRLS ARE THE FUTURE, and with such transforming power within, when given freedom of choice, they will choose to build a better tomorrow.
