Durão Barroso has a life distinguished by a successful career in politics, but he never forgets the one thing he loves: to teach. It’s only through education, shaping young minds and empowering generations, we can achieve the one common goal shared by all, effective peace.

Moved by Leadership for service, Durão Barroso advocates change from within democracy. He was the President of the European Commission for 10 years, having been re-elected in the meantime for the European Parliament.

In Portugal, he was sub-secretary of the Ministry of the Home Affairs from 1985 to 1987, and Ministry of the Foreign Affairs from 1992 to 1995. Between 2002 and 2004, he was the country’s Prime-Minister. He was awarded with the Grã-Cruz da Ordem Militar de Cristo (a prestigious award given by the President). And he has been a member of the Portuguese Diaspora Council since 2014. He is graduated in Law by the University of Lisbon, and he has a Master’s degree in Social and Economical Sciences, from the European Institute of the University of Geneva.

Apart from his political career, he also developed an academic career as an assistant professor at the University of Lisbon, and briefly at the Department of Political Science in Georgetown University (in Washington). Education is also a passion for him, as he believes it directly shape young minds through intergenerational mentorship.
